Description
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was introduced in 1990 with the goal of eliminating discrimination against disabled workers. While earlier research suggested that the ADA had negative effects on the employment of disabled individuals, subsequent studies argued that these findings were likely due to changes to the definition of a disabled worker. In this study, I will use county-level administrative data to assess the effect of the ADA on the rate at which individuals entered Social Security Disability Insurance, which is both an important outcome and one that is consistently measured before and after the introduction of the ADA.
