Description

The authors presented an overview of the Wagner-Peyser Act (1933) which established the U.S. Employment Service (ES). The report traced the evolution of the federal-state partnership for ES and highlighted the changing priorities Congress has placed on Wagner-Peyser funded services. The role that the ES plays in the job search process for individuals and recruitment for employers was examined. Systems for ES performance measurement system and results of impact evaluations of ES services were reviewed. The paper concluded with a brief summary and review of challenges facing the ES.
