Description
This study evaluated the feasible cost savings and economic development impact of city-county consolidation. The authors identified the common salient characteristics of successful intergovernmental cooperation and consolidation of governmental services in Kent County, Michigan. In a possible second phase of the project, the authors will examine the historical impact of successful governmental consolidation initiatives on the economic performance of other metropolitan areas and contrast these findings to the current situation in Kent County.
